This book records the story and family history of Harold and Naomi Dubs of Hanover PA. It is written with desire to pass down to future generations a testimony of God's faithfulness. (Updated July 2022 with corrections and an addendum from the summer of 2021).

This book is about a woman who lived her life without Jesus Christ and made mistakes until she found the strength to allow the Lord to redirect her path from all the havoc that she entertained living for lustful and sinful behavior patterns. The tactics of people, places, and things had her caught between what was seemly dark ended results repeatedly. Until she completely surrender unto the Lord and allowed Jesus Christ to rule in her life with her whole actuality with surrendering totally unto our Lord and allowing His will to be fixed and not the desires she once sought after from living a ungodly lifestyle.

This book takes you on a journey of my life, as seen through my eyes, and my own personal experiences, which at times was very painful, yet there were glimpses of hope, and it is that hope, along with the love of Jesus Christ, that pushed and carried me to where I am today, and am now able to finish this book. NOW, by the grace of God, I stand in faith in Jesus Christ, testifying, witnessing, teaching, and preaching to others, that you, too, can be delivered and healed from being a victim, to being an OVERCOMER!

Imagine a former Hessian soldier and his family traveling from Bieber in Germany to Ulm, and then taking a wooden barge down the Danube to Vienna; then continue south on the great river to Serbia and by land to Stephansfeld. After that, on to Karlsdorf and make a return trip through Romania and Hungary, back through Vienna and on to Osnabrueck, Germany and back south to Bieber. Well, now realize, that it took more than 150 years to complete the trip and six generations of the Wenzel family participated it in. In a nutshell, that is my story.

At the home of great aunt, Helen Kendall Cooke, a portrait hangs on a bedroom wall. It is large and has a presence that fills the room. My aunt laughed when she introduced me to the portrait telling me that she would hang a towel over it when her grandchild stayed in the house because he was frightened by it. “This, she said, is your great, great, great grandfather, Stephen Davies.” I should admit that I did have a moment when I sympathized with her grandson. There is no unkindness in the portrait’s face; it must be the seriousness of purpose in his eyes. This is my legacy to my children so that they can have something to look back on and to possibly answer some of their questions in later years when I’m not around. It is also hoped that maybe others, such as you, will wish to read and possibly enjoy the true tales of my childhood as I saw it. Not that I had such an unusual or spectacular childhood, just normal, but those years were ones of great happenings for our country and for the world.
